Evil God 36
Shibaliwu Gorge 12
Deep Sea Domain.
At the very last moment, Chen Yu had used every ounce of his strength to drag Captain Duan and the other two inside.
The instant the domain expanded, the overwhelming pressure from the outside world vanished and was replaced by a silence so profound it felt suffocating.
White sand filled his field of vision, with scattered, withered bones buried amidst the grit; a diffuse white light originating from an unknown source bathed the entire space in an unreal glow.
Chen Yu stumbled and fell on his knees.
His face was deathly pale; expanding the domain to pull in three people, plus the little evil god, had drained nearly all the strength he had just managed to recover.
But he had no time to catch his breath.
Captain Duan and the others had landed on the white sand just a short distance away.
The three faces that had been cycling through one another had now stopped; like Chen Yu, they lay on the sand, though this hardly meant they were in good shape.
Captain Duan bore a wound on his chest deep enough to expose bone; Xiao Zhuo’s side was torn open; and half of Xiao Sheng’s face was so swollen his features were barely discernible. His glasses dangled precariously from one ear. The sight looked almost comical.
Chen Yu’s heart sank as he looked at them.
He knew how terrifying Wen Li’s Torrent of Knowledge was.
It wasn’t simply a mental attack; a volume of information far exceeding the limits of human comprehension was poured directly into the victim’s brain. Like a flood, it would easily breach the mental defenses that served as a human’s levee, causing their contamination value to skyrocket.
The fact that they had managed to calm down after such an impact was already remarkable.
But it wasn’t enough.
Far from enough.
Chen Yu gritted his teeth and moved to Captain Duan’s side. He scooped up a handful of white sand to press it against the captain’s wound to staunch the bleeding, but Captain Duan suddenly opened his eyes and grabbed Chen Yu’s wrist.
“Don’t waste your time; it’s useless,” Captain Duan said in a hoarse voice.
Chen Yu was momentarily stunned. “What do you mean?”
Captain Duan replied calmly: “Wen Li’s Torrent of Knowledge has caused irreversible damage to my brain. Although I’ve managed to suppress it for now, that’s only a temporary fix. It won’t last forever. Besides, that strike against Cheng Mo within the Truce Domain exhausted every last bit of our strength… Even if we escape this place, we’re beyond saving.”
Captain Duan paused; then, the six eyes across the three faces– his own, Xiao Zhuo’s, and Xiao Sheng’s –turned simultaneously toward Chen Yu. “Don’t worry about us. Run!”
No sooner had the words been spoken than a burst of gleeful, babbling laughter rang out beside Chen Yu.
Chen Yu turned to see Xiao Hundun crawling around on all fours across the white sand.
After being fed three Fragments of Authority by Wen Li, Xiao Hundun, whose body had originally been the size of a three-month-old infant, had grown noticeably bigger; right now, he was pursuing that round, roly-poly Remnant.
Back in the Deep Sea Domain, it was as if he had returned home; he rolled about playfully, completely oblivious to the worried group nearby.
Chen Yu looked at Xiao Hundun. “But we have the Chaos God with us, and Wen Li doesn’t seem to be in a stable mental state…”
Xiao Sheng shook his head. “It’s no use. The gap between us and the leader of Black Fish is simply too vast. It’s not something that can be bridged by Xiao Hundun…at least, not by the Xiao Hundun we have right now.”
“But the leader of Black Fish went blind precisely because he glimpsed memories related to the Chaos Evil God.”
“That’s still a long shot.”
Chen Yu fell silent.
He knew Xiao Sheng was telling the truth.
Cheng Mo’s Mountain Body and Cataclysmic Earthquake, combined with Wen Li’s Torrent of Knowledge and the Eye of Knowledge Acquisition–any one of them would be a handful to deal with, let alone the two of them working together.
On top of that, he had only fused two Fragments of Authority; the disparity in contamination value was a critical weakness, and the gap in experience was an insurmountable chasm.
Xiao Zhuo looked up then and glanced around.
White sand covered the ground, and bleached bones were scattered everywhere; the entire space was so quiet that one could almost hear the sound of shifting sand.
She suddenly chuckled.
“Actually, this place is quite beautiful,” she said softly. “It’s not a bad place for a grave.”
For once, Xiao Sheng didn’t contradict her; instead, he nodded. “Mm. It’s certainly better than that pitch-black place outside.”
Chen Yu remained silent.
He quietly bandaged the wounds of Captain Duan, Xiao Zhuo, and Xiao Sheng.
The moment Captain Duan had said those words, Chen Yu had already made his decision.
He would not flee on his own.
He did not know how much time had passed– perhaps only a few seconds, perhaps several minutes –when he heard a sigh beside his ear.
It was Captain Duan’s voice.
After that, there were no further words, no more attempts at persuasion.
Unwilling to give up, Xiao Sheng continued, “If only one person were to run, there might actually be a sliver of hope…”
Before he could finish speaking, a thunderous boom erupted from the Deep Sea Domain. Chen Yu’s body suddenly went rigid as a wave of excruciating pain exploded from the depths of his soul. It was Cheng Mo; he had caught up.
That man in sunglasses had actually used his Mountain Body to tear Chen Yu’s domain with his bare hands.
He drove his hands into the boundaries of that space and pulled outward with all his might; the space of the Deep Sea Domain groaned in agony under the strain.
Immediately, cracks spread outward from Cheng Mo’s fingertips, and a thick, pitch-black liquid rushed in through the fissures, corroding the expanse of white sand.
[Trait: Mountain Body]
Function: Defense.
Effect: Body density, strength, and weight far exceed those of an ordinary person.
His skin appeared ordinary, yet in reality, he was as solid as a layer of crustal rock compacted over ten thousand years; simply by standing there, his very presence was like an unmovable mountain.
As Cheng Mo stepped through the fissure and his feet touched the ground, the white sandy surface collapsed inward.
No expression was visible beneath his sunglasses; it was as if the people struggling for their lives before him were nothing more than mere insects to be exterminated.
Chen Yu let out a muffled groan and nearly fell on the sand. A trickle of blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.
He shielded Duan Zhuosheng and the others behind him and swept his arm through the air, launching that rotund Remnant toward Cheng Mo like a cannonball.
Yet, against a body as immovable as a mountain, an attack of this magnitude didn’t even qualify as a tickle.
Cheng Mo didn’t even deign to look at it directly; with a wave of his hand, he sent it crashing into the distant white sands.
Chen Yu’s pupils contracted.
The disparity in power was simply too vast.
Without hesitation, he grabbed the dazed Xiao Hundun beside him and raised his hand to smack the boy’s backside. But this time, Cheng Mo gave him no chance.
Almost the instant Chen Yu raised his arm, Cheng Mo’s fist was already upon him.
A fist imbued with the power of the earth came crashing down; it was a simple punch, yet it bore down with the weight of a mountain, leaving Chen Yu no time to react.
Just then, an ear-piercing shriek suddenly exploded into the air!
“Yiya–!!!”
At some point, Xiao Hundun had broken free from Chen Yu’s grasp and was standing on his shoulder; his tiny body was taut and rigid as he let out a piercing shriek, a sound unlike anything an infant could produce.
The cry was a cacophony of countless overlapping sounds; it pierced straight into the eardrums and rattled the brain, causing even Cheng Mo to frown.
His fist paused for a split second, allowing Chen Yu to dodge the blow.
When the gust of wind from the punch grazed Chen Yu’s ear and slammed into the white sands behind him, it blasted out a deep crater dozens of meters in diameter.
Cheng Mo looked at the little evil god, taken aback by this unexpected counterattack.
His eyes were hidden behind dark sunglasses, but he tilted his head slightly, seemingly surprised by the evil god’s actions.
Voluntarily protecting another was not something one would expect from an evil god.
Chen Yu said nothing.
He simply patted the infant’s head gently, not as one would treat a god, but rather like comforting a frightened child.
The gesture was tender, as if he were thanking him.
The little evil god suddenly quieted down. He sat obediently on Chen Yu’s shoulder, his pitch-black eyes fixed on Cheng Mo, who stood opposite them.
At that moment, the torn domain began to heal under Chen Yu’s power, and the atmosphere changed completely from what it had been just moments before.
Chen Yu stood at the forefront with the little evil god sitting on his shoulder. Not far behind him, a gigantic octopus and swarms of smaller fish had formed a multi-layered barrier that shielded Duan Zhuosheng and the others, whose conditions were currently unstable.
Chen Yu frowned, and the sand and gravel beneath his feet suddenly began to churn. Countless submerged white skulls emerged from the depths of the sand; they pieced themselves together and transformed into an army of bizarre Remnants– fish skeletons with six legs, snake skeletons with human faces, and bird skeletons dragging tattered wings.
They gathered around Chen Yu, arrayed in a vast, imposing military formation.
Once the little evil god fell silent, no other sound stirred within the Deep Sea Domain, save for a soft noise that flowed through the space, like the whisper of time.
Chen Yu looked at Cheng Mo. He slowly raised his hand and swung it forward; the army advanced in silence.
Cheng Mo didn’t move. Only when the army had closed the distance did he slowly lift his foot and stomp down
[Trait: Cataclysmic Earthquake]
Effect: Infuses the power of the earth into strikes; every attack triggers an earthquake.
A ring-shaped shockwave exploded outward with Cheng Mo at its center.
Wherever the shockwave passed, the ground cracked and white sand was blasted into the air, forming a visible ripple of impact expanding in all directions.
The army of Remnants could not withstand the shockwave for even a moment; they disintegrated en masse. Their skulls shattered and reverted to broken bone fragments and sand, much like a sand painting being wiped away by a hand.
With just a single blow, Chen Yu lost nearly a third of his army.
Chen Yu’s face turned even paler.
He gritted his teeth and mobilized the Remnants once more.
The vast army split to the flanks, while a second wave of Remnants dove down from the sky; spreading their tattered bone wings, they swarmed down like a dense cloud of locusts.
Cheng Mo looked up.
Then, he suddenly crouched down, plunged his hands into the sand beneath his feet, and tore them apart to either side. With a harsh ripping sound, he actually tore a fissure right through the Deep Sea Domain.
The chasm was dozens of meters wide and bottomless; the flock of Remnants plummeting from the sky couldn’t stop their momentum in time and fell straight into that abyss-like rift.
But it didn’t end there.
Cheng Mo continued to tear outward along the fissure. He was actually attempting to rip apart the Deep Sea Domain entirely.
Chen Yu’s face turned deathly pale in an instant.
The backlash from having his domain torn apart struck him again; he felt as though his very consciousness was being pulled apart by giant hands, and the scene before his eyes began to blur.
He desperately channeled his power to repair the damage, but he couldn’t hold out for long.
Soon, the Deep Sea domain began to teeter on the brink of collapse.
The thick, viscous darkness from the outside world began to seep in through the tear in the domain; gradually, the silence was shattered, and darkness replaced the expanse of white sand.
“Fuck!” Chen Yu couldn’t help but curse.
By now, Cheng Mo had stopped tearing; he straightened up and began to close in on Chen Yu.
The domain trembled beneath his feet, and the fissure spread along with his every step, trailing him like a shadow.
If this went on, everyone would die.
Chen Yu gritted his teeth and decided to make one last desperate attempt.
