Chapter 86 Premonition

A week later, Shen Wanchao’s physical examination results came out, and some indicators were indeed problematic. But apart from the sudden dizziness that night, he did not show any other symptoms.

Qi Xiao believed that there was no need to panic too much at the moment, nor was it necessary to take any treatment measures; just observation would suffice.

However, Zhou Hui was still worried.

On the way home from the hospital, Zhou Hui didn’t say much, and his brows were slightly furrowed as he drove.

When they got home, Shen Wanchao was about to change his shoes when he heard Zhou Hui’s voice behind him.

“Why don’t you go and have the glands removed?”

Shen Wanchao paused, surprised that Zhou Hui had brought this up out of the blue.

He had previously suffered from the aftereffects of [stolen content]glands damage and had mentioned to Zhou Hui his consideration of having them removed.

However, due to various practical factors, he ultimately decide not to have the surgery.

Now that his glands had healed, Shen Wanchao had no further thoughts of surgery, but unexpectedly, Zhou Hui brought it up.

After saying his previous sentence, Zhou Hui suddenly felt something was amiss and added, “I don’t want you to hurt yourself for no reason. I’m just worried about your health. If pheromones make you sick, it would be better to be a Beta. If it’s because of my pheromones that you’re sick, I can also…”

Shen Wanchao reached out and covered his mouth.

“What are you saying?” Shen Wanchao smiled, “My glands has healed. Why would I remove a perfectly healthy organ? As for you, there’s no evidence yet that you caused my illness, and I feel perfectly healthy.”

“Didn’t Qi Xiao say that we just need to observe?”

Zhou Hui sighed.

Shen Wanchao felt a warm, damp sensation in his palm, and released his hand.

“I was too nervous,” Zhou Hui conceded. “If any problems arise in the future, don’t worry about me. Whatever method is used, your health must come first.”

“Okay.” Shen Wanchao’s eyes crinkled as he smiled.

He hadn’t seen Zhou Hui so flustered yet somewhat restrained in a long time.

It was rather adorable.

…

Not long after Shen Wanchao and Zhou Hui left, someone else arrived at the hospital where Qi Xiao worked.

Lu Yingtang was dressed in a suit today, accompanied by a slightly short and stout man.

The man’s smile had a hint of obsequiousness. He followed behind Lu Yingtang while introducing the hospital’s equipment and layout.

“…These are all high-end imported instruments that have been added in the last two years. But we have a larger budget for the research institute. If Professor Lu joins, I guarantee you and your research group will receive the best treatment!”

The man’s tone was exaggerated.

“Mr. Qi, you flatter me.”

Lu Yingtang listened to the man’s empty promises, but he never gave a clear answer.

The man’s name was Qi Yun, Qi Xiao’s second brother.

He didn’t seem to mind that Lu Yingtang was playing games with him, and appeared easy to get along with.

“Speaking of which, I have a close friend who often gets checkups at your hospital.” Lu Yingtang calmly said, “His health has never been good, and he’s been coming to the outpatient clinic recently. I was thinking of taking his test results home for him today.”

Qi Yun replied without hesitation, “That’s no trouble at all. Just tell me his name and ID number, and I’ll have Xiao Li get it for you.”

Lu Yingtang paused for a moment, then smiled apologetically, “I don’t remember his ID number.”

Qi Yun laughed heartily, “That’s no problem, just knowing the name is enough.”

“His name is Shen Wanchao.” Lu Yingtang said, “Thank you very much then.”

“Shen Wanchao?” Qi Yun remembered, then he said to Lu Yingtang. “Zhou Hui’s spouse? I heard he’s been abroad recently, and the two of them are going through a divorce.”

Lu Yingtang shook his head and said, “It seems Mr. Qi’s information is a bit outdated. Mr. Shen has already returned to China. As for the divorce…”

Lu Yingtang’s smile grew wider, “I guess they really will divorce soon.”

Qi Yun wasn’t very interested in the gossip about the divorce, so he nodded and then instructed his subordinate to help retrieve the reports.

Not long after, all of Shen Wanchao’s recent medical reports were delivered to Lu Yingtang.

Lu Yingtang quickly finished reading the reports and folded them with satisfaction.

Qi Yun asked, “It seems Mr. Shen is in good health; you seem very happy.”

“Yes, nothing could be more gratifying.” Lu Yingtang put away the reports. “Let’s continue, Mr. Qi, please.”

…

Summer vacation went by faster than expected. If they had to find a reason, it would probably be because every day during summer vacation usually starts straight in the morning.

In the blink of an eye, there were only ten days left before school started. The family returned from the cool northern country where they had spent more than twenty days and had just gotten off the plane.

After getting off the plane, Zhou Mingchen picked up his and Lin Anyi’s bags and walked quickly ahead without looking back.

Lin Anyi lagged behind, and the distance between the two grew wider and wider, but he had no intention of catching up.

Shen Wanchao and Zhou Hui lagged even further behind, and seeing the situation between the two children, they couldn’t help but sigh.

“They’ve been arguing again.” Shen Wanchao shook his head, “After so many days of playing, their relationship hasn’t recovered yet.”

Zhou Hui had a different opinion: “It’s normal for children to quarrel. Before, when Zhou Mingchen was teaching Xiao Yi to ski in the snow mountain, the two of them were affectionate. Maybe they quarreled about something else later. Let them be.”

Shen Wanchao thought Zhou Hui’s words made a lot of sense and stopped thinking about it.

After all, even if they were arguing, Zhou Mingchen hadn’t forgotten to help Lin Anyi carry his bag, which meant it wasn’t serious.

So he decided to leave it at that.

Ahead, Zhou Mingchen had stopped at some point and waited for Lin Anyi.

Lin Anyi held out his hand to him: “Give me back my bag.”

Zhou Mingchen scoffed coldly: “Bag? What bag? Is your bag with me? The bag I’m holding belongs to my brother, you’re not my brother, why are you asking me for his bag?”

Lin Anyi gritted his teeth: “Zhou Mingchen, can’t you be reasonable? Do you really enjoy being someone’s older brother?”

“Yes, I’m unreasonable, I just like being a brother.” Zhou Mingchen acted like a rogue, “Call me ‘brother’ and I’ll give you back your bag.”

Lin Anyi glared at him, then he simply lowered his head and walked quickly forward.

Zhou Mingchen quickly chased after him: “Lin Anyi!”

“I’ve never seen a stubborn donkey like you in my life!”

Just as Zhou Hui had expected, it wasn’t surprising that two 17-year-old boys could argue over such a trivial matter.

After returning home, Zhou Hui received a message and called Shen Wanchao to the study.

Shen Wanchao followed him into the room, and closed the door behind him, “What’s wrong?”

Zhou Hui handed his phone to Shen Wanchao, “Huo Yun invited you and me to his son’s birthday party this Saturday night.”

“His son? Huo Tingsong?” Shen Wanchao raised an eyebrow. “Such a formal dinner?”

“Yes.” Zhou Hui took Shen Wanchao’s hand and led him to a chair. “When I saw the invitation, I thought it was Old Huo celebrating his own birthday.”

Zhou Hui sat down, and wrapped one hand around his waist before pulling Shen Wanchao onto his lap.

“Old Huo’s fuss has made me start to reconsider whether I’ve been neglecting my child’s birthdays. After all, Zhou Mingchen has never invited outsiders to a party except for his first and tenth birthdays.” Zhou Hui said as he buried his face in Shen Wanchao’s chest.

Shen Wanchao didn’t notice Zhou Hui’s little actions. After thinking for a moment, he said, “But I don’t remember [Read on]the Huo family boy’s birthday being in summer.”

Last time he went out with Zhou Mingchen and Huo Tingsong, Shen Wanchao overheard them talking about zodiac signs.

“What month is Capricorn again?” Shen Wanchao asked.

Zhou Hui looked speechless: “How do you even know that kid’s zodiac sign?”

Shen Wanchao chuckled and poked Zhou Hui’s temple: “You’re crazy.”

Zhou Hui hugged him tighter. He suddenly guessed: “Could it be a birthday party for Old Huo’s other son?”

It was possible.

Both of their expressions became indescribable.

Zhou Hui massaged his throbbing temples: “Inviting us to this kind of occasion… Old Huo is really crazy. Forget it, I’ll find an excuse to decline later.”

Shen Wanchao also felt it was best not to get involved in Huo Yun’s family affairs.

Judging from Huo Yun’s invitation to him and Zhou Hui, he probably invited other people he knew as well. This was a plan to officially introduce his youngest son to social circles.

It was one thing for everyone to tacitly agree on something, but another to openly bring him out.

Others might not say anything to his face, but there would certainly be gossip behind his back.

That child would inevitably face many strange looks.

“What a mess,” Shen Wanchao sighed.

Since Zhou Hui said he would reject Huo Yun’s invitation, Shen Wanchao quickly put the matter out of his mind.

Until the next day, he received a call from Yu Yangui.

Shen Wanchao was stunned by the name on the screen, it took him a while to answer.

“Wanchao, how have you been lately?” Yu Yangui’s tone was as elegant and polite as ever.

Shen Wanchao also adopted a polite tone: “Everything is fine, how about you?”

Shen Wanchao was actually very guilty when he asked this, after all, he had received Huo Yun’s invitation, and he was really worried that Yu Yangui would say she hadn’t been doing well lately, and then grab him and cry.

Shen Wanchao wasn’t unwilling to listen to a heartbroken person’s cries; it was simply that his relationship with Yu Yangui wasn’t close enough for that. At most, he could only offer some superficial words of comfort.

Unexpectedly, Yu Yangui sounded quite happy: “I’m doing very well too. Something good is happening soon, and I’m preparing to celebrate.”

Shen Wanchao forced a smile: “Really…? That’s good.”

Did Yu Yangui not know what Huo Yun had done?

Shen Wanchao began to hesitate about whether to tell her about it.

Before Shen Wanchao could make up his mind, Yu Yangui continued: “Although it might be a bit sudden, I’d like to meet with you in the next couple of days. When are you free?”

Meet?

Without hesitation, Shen Wanchao said, “I’m sorry, I’m not very available lately. If you need anything, you can just tell me over the phone.”

“Don’t apologize, it was my invitation that was too abrupt,” Yu Yangui said. “I have something to ask of you, so I wanted to meet in person to express my gratitude. Otherwise, I would feel really bad.”

Shen Wanchao felt the pressure and scratched his temple. “You’re too kind. Tell me what it is.”

Yu Yangui stopped beating around the bush and said directly, “I’d like to borrow your connections in the media.”

Shen Wanchao was taken aback.

Perhaps thinking he was about to refuse, Yu Yangui quickly explained, “My family naturally has connections in the media, but that would be too obvious. So I’d like to ask you to help me connect me with a media outlet that doesn’t have much connection to us.”

This was a small favor.

Thinking of her experience, Shen Wanchao couldn’t refuse such a simple request.

Before agreeing, Shen Wanchao still asked, “What exactly do you want to do?”

A short laugh came from the receiver, and Shen Wanchao heard Yu Yangui say,

“Wanchao, we’ve known each other for so many years, although we’ve never been particularly close, but you should know me a little… I can’t tell you the details, because it’s all being done in secret.”

“All I can tell you is that I’m not someone who will always swallow my anger. And this matter won’t involve you or your family, so you can rest assured.”

A few minutes later, the phone hung up.

Shen Wanchao thought back to Yu Yangui’s words and sighed.

He had a premonition that something big would happen in the next couple of days.
