GRR 46

His heart, which had been perfectly fine just moments ago, started racing once again. Jion hurriedly averted his gaze and stared at the floor. Fortunately, Choi Heechan didn’t seem to care much about him, and Kwon Chasa didn’t say a word about it.

After waiting a little longer, entry began. As people passed through the gates and the line shortened, Choi Heechan grew more excited. Not long after, Jion and Kwon Chasa also entered after having their barcodes checked. Choi Heechan, who was following behind, shouted in an excited voice.

“Hyung, I want to ride the Gyro Drop. Let’s go outside quickly.”

“Uh… uh, yeah….”

Jion watched Choi Heechan’s retreating figure as he headed toward the escalator, and followed him. Kwon Chasa trailed a step behind.

Do I really have to ride the Gyro Drop? I absolutely hate scary rides, even when I went out with friends, I only rode gentle ones like the carousel, which often led to playful teasing. But now, because I’m helping a ghost, I’m going to end up riding scary rides that weren’t in my fate. Jion asked cautiously while holding the escalator handrail.

“But Heechan… do I really have to ride?”

“Of course. If you ride it, I’ll stick right next to you.”

“Hmm… if that’s the case, could you just stick with someone else?”

“Nah, that wouldn’t be fun. They are strangers.”

But does that matter…? Isn’t riding the rides the important thing?

Jion thought so, but didn’t say anything. This was because Choi Heechan was excited to the point where his complexion had brightened considerably.

As soon as Choi Heechan stepped outside, he headed straight for the Gyro Drop. Jion, who found himself standing in line by accident, trembled at the screams already coming from all directions.

He suddenly heard a grating laugh and turned his head around. Kwon Chasa, who was looking around with his arms crossed, was smiling. It did not seem like a positive reaction.

“What is it? Why are you laughing?”

When asked in a curt voice, Kwon Chasa opened his mouth, still wearing a smile.

“Because you look scared.”

“Me, when did I?”

“Weren’t you asking that because you didn’t want to ride it?”

He is a pro at spotting what you want to hide. Hit right where it hurts, Jion was speechless.

Kwon Chasa kept his eyes on the Gyro Drop, which ascended to its limit and then plunged down in an instant. His expression had returned to normal, so Jion was nervous that he might said something irritating again, but fortunately, Kwon Chasa simply averted his eyes from the Gyro Drop without saying a word.

He wished he could know what thoughts Kwon Chasa was hiding behind that blank expression.

Jion was startled by the thought that had suddenly crossed his mind and shook his head vigorously from side to side. He was flustered because his constant curiosity about Kwon Chasa was like proof that he was developing feelings toward him.

“Hyung, hyung! We can ride now!”

As he took a deep breath to calm his pounding heart, his turn came. Choi Heechan was so excited that he was spinning around above Jion’s head, and Jion bit his lip, which had dried up with nervousness.

“Can we get on now?”

“Yes….”

Just as Jion, having replied to Kwon Chasa’s question in a dejected voice, was about to enter. Kwon Chasa, who was standing beside him, was stopped by an employee. Jion turned around in surprise.

“Sir, could you please stand over here for a moment? There is a height restriction, so those taller than 190cm cannot board.”

He had seen people unable to ride because they were short, but this was the first time he had seen a situation where someone couldn’t ride because they were too tall. He had thought that Kwon Chasa’s height was extraordinary, but hearing it in specific numbers made his jaw drop.

Kwon Chasa was led slightly to the side by an employee and leaned against a pillar. His height nearly touched the 190cm mark. If he was a person from 300 years ago, he must be from the Joseon era; how could he be so tall? The average height back then must have been much shorter than it was now.

As Jion waited for Kwon Chasa, the latter stared down at the employee who had led him. The employee’s f[unauthorized copy]ace seemed to be flushed red.

“I-I think you can ride….”

As soon as permission was granted, Kwon Chasa walked past the employee without a word and approached Jion, who was waiting awkwardly. The distance wasn’t that far, and he could have closed the gap quickly with his stride, but for some reason, it looked like he was walking in slow motion.

Jion had a feeling his face might turn just as red as that employee’s, so he couldn’t look at him until the end and hurriedly sat down in an empty seat.

“Haa….”

Realizing his predicament only belatedly, Jion gathered his trembling legs. He slightly regretted having impulsively volunteered to grant a request for the first time in his life. While there were many people who enjoyed the thrill of such rides, Jion was certainly not one of them.

“Hyung, I’m so excited!”

Choi Heechan, who had approached Jion before he knew it, grinned. Jion trembled while clutching the safety bar wrapped around his shoulders, he heard an employee say that anyone who wanted to get off could do so right now. He wanted nothing more than to lift the bar and run away immediately, but he couldn’t.

He glanced to the side and saw that, unlike him, Kwon Chasa looked not just indifferent, but downright bored. He did not feel the slightest bit of fear.

“Ah….”

Not long after, the Gyro Drop began to slowly ascend. Jion, lacking the confidence to look at the rising view or the receding ground beneath his feet, closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. His heart pounded so hard that he had to manually inhale and exhale, like someone who had forgotten how to naturally breathe.

He thought his heart raced like this when his eyes met Kwon Chasa’s, or when he said something that sounded like he was looking out for him. Could it be that back then, he wasn’t feeling excitement, but fear?

As the Gyro Drop moved further away from the ground, Jion’s judgment became clouded, and he just muttered whatever came to mind. Even the chatter of Choi Heechan above his head sounded muffled in his ears.

“Student, are you scared?”

At the sound of Kwon Chasa’s voice coming from the side, Jion turned his head. His tightly closed eyes opened at the same time, and before he knew it, he had risen to a position where he could look down upon a vast lake at a glance.

This is crazy… I will instantly die if I fall from here. Since a grim reaper is right here, they won’t waste time and will just take me to the underworld quickly… As Jion continued to entertain his useless thoughts, Kwon Chasa, who had been staring at him, laughed out loud. It was the first time he had heard such genuine, joyful laughter from him.

So he can laugh like that. He always just scoffed, sneered, or gave incredulous chuckles before.

“Wow… it stopped. When will it drop?  Hyung, I’m shaking!”

Jion couldn’t even hear Choi Heechan’s voice. Just as Kwon Chasa looked at Choi Heechan and was about to speak, the Gyro Drop began to descend at a crazy speed.

Jion could not even scream or open his eyes. As his hair fell back into place, he was completely drained and unable to move an inch. When he remained seated even after the safety bar had been released, Kwon Chasa clicked his tongue, grabbed Jion’s hand, and pulled him closer. Jion was unexpectedly thrown into Kwon Chasa’s arms and looked up at him with blank eyes.

The breath that had stopped during the descent resumed, and his heart began to pound. He could do nothing but stare at Kwon Chasa.

“Jion-hyung! Let’s hurry and go ride something else too!”

Only Choi Heechan could not hide his excitement and was running wild. Kwon Chasa glared at Choi Heechan, and shouted.

“How long do we have to keep playing along with you? Isn’t this enough?”

“…….”

“Stop throwing tantrums now.”

His cold voice immediately brought Jion back to his senses, as if cold water had been poured over him. Choi Heechan instantly dispirited and slumped his shoulders. He spun around and hid behind Jion’s back. Only then did Jion realize he was still being held in the arms of the grim reaper, and hurriedly slipped away.

Kwon Chasa sighed, seemingly frustrated that he couldn’t do as he pleased because there were too many people around. It wasn’t that Jion didn’t understand why he was in a hurry, but he wanted Choi Heechan to have a pleasant day if possible.

“…Could you be a little kinder to him?”

“…….”

“It’s his last wish… Since I’ve already agreed to grant it, wouldn’t it be nice to do it with a good heart?”

Apart from his reluctance to ride scary rides, Choi Heechan’s wish was to create good memories here, so he wanted to leave him with only happy memories.

Jion pressed down on his heart, which was pounding, and looked up at Kwon Chasa. The latter chuckled incredulously and stared directly at Jion.

“Isn’t it enough if I’m only kind to you, student?”
