Extra 3 Shen Jing’s perspective Part 2
“…”
Shen Jing squinted, trying to find evidence that Zong Yanlei was joking.
But there was none. Zong Yanlei was very serious.
Shen Jing belatedly realized that no matter how mature and composed this person had appeared before, he was essentially just a young man in his early twenties.
When he was about the same age, didn’t he also think that as long as the four brothers were together, they would be invincible? Shen Jing’s eyes darkened.
“Maybe he’s busy.” After saying that, he lowered his head and started typing on the keyboard again.
Zong Yanlei suddenly realized that his actions were inappropriate. After a moment of silence, he lowered his arm and leaned back on the sofa.
“You don’t understand Jiang Man. If he wanted to, he would never be short of money. The fact that he came back to beg me after six years is…very suspicious.” He demonstrated his complete understanding of Jiang Man. “He must have other motives, motives that are higher than ‘money’.”
The way you’re rushing to explain yourself now is also suspicious.
Shen Jing inwardly complained, but outwardly maintained a professional and calm demeanor.
“That is definitely worth making contact and investigating,” he said.
“Right?” Zong Yanlei’s voice suddenly softened. “That’s exactly what I think.”
After that, until the end of the Xuanpu Station race, Shen Jing never acted as Zong Yanlei’s “love consultant” again.
On the day of Wuxi Chen’s human hunt, Zong Yanlei sneaked into the ancestral home of the Wuxi clan in Qunyu Mountain alone, while Shen Jing provided him with remote support via an ear clip communicator.
Initially, everything was normal. Shen Jing had hacked into the system beforehand and altered the biometric verification information of the original invitee, allowing Zong Yanlei to successfully pass the finger-prick blood test and enter Wuxi Chen’s human hunting party.
In the small space, everyone was impeccably dressed, wearing pure white masks. Wuxi Chen, dressed in a red velvet suit, stood to one side of the stage, serving as both the organizer and the host.
“This is our number twelve prey, 10 years old, 22kg, with dry hair, a thin build, and dark red eyes…” Wuxi Chen roughly grabbed the hair of a Wo girl and dragged her to the edge of the stage, closer to the “audience” below. “If you catch her, you’ll get three million.”
The girl was crying, her face was deathly pale. She dared not resist, and she couldn’t even make a sound when she cried.
“This is prey number eight, 12 years old, 30kg, with bright red eyes…”
“This is prey number five…”
“Prey number three…”
Through the hidden camera hole in Zong Yanlei’s mask, Shen Jing could clearly see the terrified and helpless Wo children being pushed onto the stage. The oldest among them was no more than fourteen years old.
As Shen Jing’s hands clenched into fists on the keyboard, he understood the phrase “a beast in human form” for the first time in a very direct way.
How could these people, who looked like humans, do such beastly things?
“Now, let me proudly introduce tonight’s number one celebrity prey, Jiang Man!”
Shen Jing was stunned.
Jiang Man? How did he become a prey? After Xuanpu Station ended, shouldn’t he have returned to Baiyujing with the Sun God’s convoy?
Shen Jing wasn’t the only one surprised. On the computer screen, the image shook, and Zong Yanlei subconsciously raised his hand.
“Boss?” Shen Jing spoke up in time to stop him.
The hand wearing a white glove paused, then finally grasped the wine glass on the table.
On stage, the explanation of Jiang Man’s story continued. Jiang Man remained silent throughout, his face downcast, looking terrified.
One of the hunters asked if he could do anything with the captured prey. Wuxi Chen held up the microphone in his right hand and reached out to Jiang Man with the other, his voice full of excitement.
“Of course! Torture him, rape him, kill him, or… eat him, whatever you please.”
“Crack!”
Shen Jing only saw Zong Yanlei’s hand holding the glass tighten suddenly, followed by a sudden sound of glass shattering throughout the room.
Everyone’s eyes immediately turned to the source of the sound, including Jiang Man’s.
“Sorry.” Zong Yanlei released his hand, and the glass shards in his palm fell away. He said in a flat tone, “I was too excited.”
There were six hunters in total, two on each floor. Zong Yanlei and another hunter were assigned to the first floor of the mansion.
“Why is Jiang Man here?”
Although they were on the same floor, the two hunters did not start from the same point. Zong Yanlei, carrying his gun, walked quickly through the corridor. He opened wooden doors one by one, his voice taut with tension.
After Zong Yanlei took power, Shen Jing was able to join the Sun God Group as the head of the technical security department. After more than half a year of working as a corporate slave, he, who had never worked before, was now able to skillfully handle his superiors’ sudden questioning.
“I’ll look into it.”
The key point is that you should never say “I don’t know”.
He opened another door. It was a servants’ dining room, simply decorated with rustic furniture.
Through the screen, Shen Jing quickly spotted the little girl trembling under the table.
“Hide in the cabinet.” Zong Yan raised the muzzle of his gun and pointed to the sideboard next to him. “Don’t come out until the gunfire stops.”
He held a weapon, wore a mask that obscured his features, and even his voice was an altered electronic tone. The little girl covered her mouth, frozen in fear, completely unable to move.
Zong Yanlei had no choice but to take a step towards her. The little girl finally moved, but crawled in the opposite direction.
Just then, a gunshot rang out not far outside the corridor.
Zong Yanlei stopped abruptly. But a moment later, he turned and ran outside.
The screen shook, and during this time, several gunshots rang out.
Someone had been hit.
It was either Jiang Man, or one of those children.
Zong Yanlei quickly ran to the lobby on the first floor. At the bottom of the grand staircase, bloodstains were visible on the marble floor. Shen Jing could only see a pool of blood slowly gushing from under a thin body, while standing next to it with his back to them was a hunter with his gun pointed downwards.
The hunter turned around when he heard the footsteps and saw that it was Zong Yanlei, who was also a hunter. He immediately put away his hunting rifle.
“Sorry, I beat you to it.” Even though it was an electronic voice, they could still hear the laughter in his voice.
He pulled a dagger from his holster, crouched down, grabbed the hair of the corpse on the ground, and was about to cut off its head.
Zong Yanlei took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled.
“Is it funny?”
As he asked the question, he walked forward, cocked his gun at lightning speed, and without giving the other person the chance to answer, and without any intention of listening, fired a shot directly at the back of the man’s head.
A shot rang out, and the hunter fell to the ground.
“Trash.”
Zong Yanlei stepped over the corpse, lowered his gun, and continued searching the floor.
Shen Jing sensed that his movements as he pushed open the doors were becoming increasingly hurried, and his pace was quickening. Fearing that he might act impulsively and make a mistake, he couldn’t help but remind him, “Our ultimate goal is Wuxi Chen.”
Not Jiang Man.
The hand about to open the door suddenly clenched. Zong Yanlei coldly said, “I know.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a series of loud metallic clanging sounds, mixed with the cracking of porcelain, came from the end of the corridor.
Zong Yanlei’s gaze suddenly turned to that direction, and without a second’s hesitation, he rushed over.
The image began to shake more violently, and his rapid breathing could even be heard from the speaker.
When he arrived at the source of the sound, he found himself in a dimly lit kitchen. The night vision function of his mask activated automatically, and he stumbled upon the tail end of a fierce battle.
On the messy floor, Jiang Man was hunched over, panting heavily. His body trembled slightly from the exertion. Beneath him lay the still-twitching corpse of a dead hunter.
Zong Yanlei held his breath, tiptoed, and slowly approached from behind.
“Click”.
The silence was broken by the sound of a gun being cocked.
Jiang Man froze, even his breathing became shallow.
“You’d better not move.”
Shen Jing, who was behind the computer, raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing Zong Yanlei say those words. He hadn’t used this tone two minutes earlier when he fired at the black-clad hunter.
Subsequent events led Shen Jing to seriously consider whether he should turn off the live stream to avoid seeing anything too private.
“Shut up!”
“I’m not interested in people like you. Stop your flattery and stop saying things that disgust me.”
Fortunately, Zong Yanlei suddenly got angry for some reason, and the two of them did not end up doing anything indecent in that blood-smelling kitchen.
Shen Jing breathed a sigh of relief.
“My prey is not the Wo people. If you want to live, stick close behind me.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Jing, who had been silent for a long time, couldn’t help but remind him again: “Boss, our goal this time is to capture Wuxi Chen alive. Wouldn’t it be inconvenient to bring him along? Or, you can just leave him here…”
Jiang Man was a very cunning guy. As long as you gave him a weapon, he could survive.
“You shut up too.”
Zong Yanlei interrupted him irritably, whether he had forgotten or didn’t care, he wasn’t wary of Jiang Man. He picked up his gun and walked straight to the wall to turn on all the lights in the kitchen.
“I know Wuxi Chen is the priority. If you think I’m too slow, you can do it your…”
He trailed off as soon as he turned around.
Jiang Man held up the gun with a smile on his lips.
“Who exactly are you, esteemed guest?”
Shen Jing looked away, picked up the espresso next to him and took a sip, then stretched out one middle finger from each hand and rubbed them rhythmically against his temples.
Fortunately, during the back-and-forth standoff, Jiang Man seemed to have come to believe Zong Yanlei’s claim that he was a member of WRA and didn’t want to cause any more trouble. He kicked away Zong Yanlei’s gun, turned around, and ran away without considering him an enemy and shooting him dead.
When Shen Jing saw Zong Yanlei pick up the hunting rifle from the ground unharmed and leave the messy kitchen, he clasped his hands together and silently bowed three times to the sky, thanking his elder brother and third brother’s spirits in heaven.
Three of the six hunters were already dead. Based on the distribution of two hunters per floor, Shen Jing deduced that the extra hunter on the first floor must have come down from the second floor.
“There’s a storage room on the third floor. According to intelligence, it’s where Wuxi Chen keeps his ‘trophies.’” Shen Jing pulled up the mansion’s blueprints and carefully confirmed the layout of the third floor. “An arrogant hunter would never stray too far from his trophies. I’m sure he’s on the third floor.”
Zong Yanlei gave a brief “hmm” in agreement. But he didn’t go up to the third floor immediately; instead, he went up to the second floor from the wing and went through each room one by one.
“Go to the first floor and stay there, it’s safe there.” Regardless of whether he found the hiding children or not, he would call out to each room, “Don’t be afraid, someone will come to rescue you soon.”
He spent some time on the second floor. During this time, they heard two gunshots in quick succession.
“The hunter fired?” Shen Jing’s first thought was that the hunter killed Wo children again.
Zong Yanlei didn’t say anything and ran straight towards the sound of the gunshot. When he arrived, there was no body of Wo children on the ground, only the body of a hunter.
“It was Jiang Man who did it.” Shen Jing immediately guessed the whole story.
Through the loudspeaker, Zong Yanlei chuckled softly: “That’s really impressive.”
Because the voice changer was still on, the laughter was filtered into a cold electronic voice, and Shen Jing couldn’t tell whether the words were a genuine compliment or sarcastic.
Upon reaching the third floor, they immediately saw the bodies of two children in the corridor.
Zong Yanlei quickly looked away and continued forward.
“It’s just ahead.” Shen Jing led him to the location of the collection room according to the blueprints.
Just as he reached the door, the conversation coming from inside made Zong Yanlei stop in his tracks.
He took a few steps back, away from the door, then stretched out a finger. He first pointed at the door, then towards the ceiling.
“What?” Shen Jing didn’t understand what he meant at first.
Zong Yanlei clenched his fist, turned off the voice changer, and lowered his voice, “Tell me how to get to the second floor of the room.”
Shen Jing hurriedly looked at the blueprints and then noticed that the interior of the room was a two-story structure.
“There’s a door five meters behind you. Go in and turn left!”
Zong Yanlei turned and slipped into the hidden door behind him. Before turning the voice changer back on, he used his natural voice to express his disdain: “You’re not as good as my navigator.”
Shen Jing turned his head, took another sip of coffee and humbly accepted the criticism: “Yes, I will try my best to improve.”
On the stairs leading to the second floor, although the people were not yet in sight, the conversation downstairs could be heard clearly.
“Before you kill him, I need to have some fun with him first.” An electronic male voice spouted nonsense, completely unaware that his death was imminent. “I’ve watched his matches; he’s a cheerful kid. I love seeing kids like him cry their eyes out, trembling with pain.”
On the screen in front of Shen Jing, Zong Yanlei’s ascent upstairs suddenly paused for a moment, and the image tilted. He could picture Zong Yanlei turning his head in disbelief upon hearing this.
“Of course, no problem.” Wuxi Chen’s voice followed immediately. “Jiang Man, I’ll count to three. If you don’t put down your gun, we’ll both shoot you at the same time.”
Zong Yanlei had already reached the second floor. He quickly walked a few steps to the edge of the railing and instantly saw the situation downstairs, the purple-clad hunter was holding a wounded hostage, Jiang Man’s gun was pointed at the hunter, and on the other side, Wuxi Chen’s crossbow bolt was pointed at Jiang Man.
The four people were in a straight line. Wuxi Chen was directly below Zong Yanlei.
Jiang Man smiled slightly: “Of course. I’ll count, 1, 2…”
The image suddenly plummeted and became blurry. Shen Jing leaned forward nervously, and then a resounding electronic voice came from the speaker–
“3.”
When the screen returned to normal, Zong Yanlei was already on the first floor, with Wuxi Chen, who had been knocked unconscious, pinned beneath him.
“To be on the safe side, inject him with a sedative before taking him away.” Once he saw that Wuxi Chen was already in his grasp, Shen Jing quickly switched windows to notify the helicopter waiting nearby to come and provide support.
Zong Yanlei grabbed Wuxi Chen’s hair, pulled his head up, and stuck a solid needle into his neck.
“All done. Send a helicopter over.”
Just as he dropped the person in his arms, Jiang Man’s voice, filled with a hint of doubt but even more murderous intent, approached them.
“What did you give him? Why didn’t you kill him?”
Seeing that he had already raised his gun, Shen Jing grew nervous again: “Boss, the helicopter will arrive in ten minutes. Try to keep him calm.”
Shen Jing’s use of “keep him calm” meant if all else failed, force would suffice.
To everyone’s surprise, Zong Yanlei didn’t need either of his methods, Jiang Man collapsed on his own. He had been smothered by the sedative on Wuxi Chen’s crossbow bolt and was temporarily unable to move.
Almost simultaneously, loud explosions and banging on doors came from downstairs.
Zong Yanlei grabbed his hunting rifle and went downstairs to investigate. At the corner on the second floor, he saw a group of Wo people swarming in through the blown-open door.
“Yu Xuan?” Shen Jing, with his keen eyes, spotted the former royal of Wo behind the group, who was coldly looking into the doorway.
“It’s quite lively here.” Zong Yanlei saw that the people were searching for the surviving Wo children and, after confirming that they had come to rescue people, turned back.
Back in the collection room, Jiang Man was still lying in the same spot.
“They really came to rescue people. A group of Wo people, do you know them?”
Jiang Man shook his head: “Wo people? I don’t know. Are you sure they’re not ones of yours?”
While monitoring the helicopter’s real-time location, Shen Jing reminded him, “Four minutes left.”
He couldn’t tell if Zong Yanlei heard it or not. After that, Shen Jing’s screen was filled with high-definition close-ups of Jiang Man’s face.
For about ten seconds, Zong Yanlei remained silent, and Jiang Man let him look at him.
Shen Jing was the only one who felt awkward.
Suddenly, a white-gloved hand reached out and covered Jiang Man’s eyes. The next second, the screen spun around. Shen Jing immediately realized that Zong Yanlei had removed his mask.
“You……”
The video disappeared, leaving only the sound.
From the scattered clues and Zong Yanlei’s subsequent words, Shen Jing pieced together what had happened in that short minute.
Two sticky, stinky little devils.
“I’m not interested in someone like you!” He couldn’t help but mouth the words silently, mimicking the tone Zong Yanlei had used when he said them not long ago.
After finishing, he picked up the coffee cup next to him and drank the remaining coffee in one gulp without any expression.
“Consider it payment for saving you.”
After putting the mask back on, Zong Yanlei rubbed Jiang Man’s bitten lower lip with his fingers, his tone ambiguous and flirtatious.
Shen Jing raised his hand expressionlessly and manually blocked half of Jiang Man’s face on the screen.
“Goodbye, Jiang Man.”
Zong Yanlei finally withdrew his hand, picked up Wuxi Chen from the ground, and walked towards the rooftop.
Upon reaching the rooftop, the helicopter was slowly landing. He first threw Wuxi Chen onto the helicopter, then entered the cabin himself. As the helicopter took off, through the cabin door, he could see a group of Wo people on the ground pointing at them and whispering.
“He said those people have nothing to do with him.” Zong Yanlei’s voice, carried by the whistling wind, reached Shen Jing’s ears as he watched the figures below grow smaller and smaller.
“Do you believe him?”
The voice changer rendered the sentence cold and mechanical, and Shen Jing could hardly connect this voice with the man who had kissed someone until their lips bled just minutes before.
“Perhaps I can ask my second brother for a dose of ‘Hell Echo’?” Shen Jing suggested tentatively.
The helicopter flew away from the skies above Qunyu Mountain. Zong Yanlei took off his mask, and after a long while, Shen Jing finally heard his reply.
“……Never mind.”
A very soft sigh came from the speaker, almost inaudible due to the noise of the propeller.
“I’ll trust him one more time.”
