RACA 50

“I find it adorable how Jongjong is so perceptive. The kid seems pretty smart. Don’t cats usually forget things that happened before pretty quickly?”

“Even though he looks like this, he’s a precious little guy with pedigree. He’s gotta have that much intelligence.”

“Oh, really? Where did you get Jongjong from?”

“Huh?”

“I heard it’s a purebred. Did you adopt it? Or was it a sale? Where did you get it?”

When Eunsol asked, Pyo Jaebeom opened his mouth to answer, but quickly closed it again. He opened and closed his lips several times, but couldn’t bring himself to say anything proper.

Eunsol’s eyes sparkled as he watched him.

‘This is it!’

He’d been pondering how to make Pyo Jaebeom question the cat’s existence. He’d already explored his job and hobbies, but he wanted him to become conscious of the cat’s presence too, nothing suitable came to mind.

But when the topic of how Jongjong was adopted came up, it naturally gave him an opportunity to think about the cat.

“Don’t you remember?”

“Hmm… Hold on.”

“Isn’t Jongjong in the pedigree? How old is he?”

Faced with Eunsol’s consecutive questions, Pyo Jaebeom looked down at the cat. Since Jongjong had always been at home with him, he hadn’t really thought about it.

‘When was it?’

No, was he always there? Did someone bring him? Or did I adopt him? That couldn’t be. Pyo Jaebeom knows his personality isn’t that sensitive.

Above all, he was constantly moving between hotels, so he never dared bring a living creature into his life. But, from some point onward, this cat with lush fur was by his side. He couldn’t recall the reason or the date Jongjong arrived. That became the first time Pyo Jaebeom questioned the cat’s existence.

But more than that, Eunsol’s strangely evasive behavior bothered him more.

“Just give it a read. I told you it’s not hard. It’s just a collection of movie reviews and actor interviews and stuff like that.”

“Huh?”

Jaebeom looked down at the items before him with a puzzled expression. The objects within his field of vision were the books and magazines Eunsol had piled up a few days ago, telling him to read them.

When he tried to pick up the cat to move it, he followed him, so he asked why, and it turned out Eunsol was telling him to read the books.

“Why are you constantly urging me to read?”

“And don’t go on about education or whatever.”

“Or else?”

“I’m just trying to find some common ground with the CEO.”

The reason had subtly changed.

“Didn’t you say it was to understand my hobbies before?”

“Well, I meant it could be possible.”

His rolling eyes gave him away completely. He himself seemed oblivious to the fact.

‘The way he keeps suggesting we watch movies all the time is also suspicious.’

So that’s why? Jaebeom concluded that Eunsol kept pushing him to read because he wanted to share his hobby.

“What are you going to do while I’m reading this?”

“Me? What am I supposed to do?”

“If there’s a going, there’s gotta be a coming, right?”

Why are you asking something so obvious? There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world. You still don’t know this truth I’ve come to realize? Guess that’s just how young you are.

Then Jaebeom suddenly remembered Eunsol’s claim that he was twenty-seven and didn’t actually live here, but had accidentally possessed a character in a drama.

Jaebeom’s stared at the cat sitting on the desk, rubbing his tail discontentedly. With the information stubbornly refusing to surface, he immediately sent a message to Kwak Sang.

It asked if the cat had been bought or given away. But no reply came back immediately.

“Why did you say it might be my hobby? Is that similar to catering to my tastes?”

“Well… in a way, I suppose?”

His evasive gaze was suspicious enough, but Lee Eunsol remained steadfast.

“Tell me honestly.”

“What?”

Forget about the cat. He couldn’t just stand by and watch Lee Eunsol keep testing him like this. Pyo Jaebeom decided he absolutely had to address this point.

“Do you like me?”

“Whoa!”

The reaction that came back as soon as he asked the question was truly honest.

“Uh, uh-uh, uh…”

It was quite a sight to behold. That small, pale face flushing red in real time. Watching his opponent, who couldn’t hide his emotions and revealed them completely, Jaebeom scratched the back of his neck.

His heart fluttered, but he couldn’t put his hands on it, so he just clenched and unclenched his hands.

“No, um, no, it’s just that…”

Looking at his face, flushed bright red like a fruit ripened under the summer sun, made Jaebeom throat feel parched.

And then there were those sweet, fresh pheromones, thick with emotion. It was a look that suited Lee Eunsol perfectly.

“Huh? Really?”

But Jaebeom still hadn’t fully grasped what feelings he harbored. He was solely focused on having finally figured out why Eunsol had acted that way all this time.

“Since when?”

Eunsol was at a loss for words at the follow-up awkward question. He chewed nervously on his soft lips and fidgeted with his fingers, unable to keep them still.

Seeing his gaze drift toward the door, he looked ready to run. His behavior was truly cat-like.

“Aren’t you going to answer?”

“No…. Well, you see, it’s just that…….”

Eunsol, who had shrunk back to his neck, fidgeted with his heels. Watching him hesitate, unsure whether to tell the truth or not, Jaebeom finished his calculations without much trouble.

“You mean you felt that way from the very first time you saw me?”

His reaction was crystal clear. Jaebeom curved the corners of his mouth as he watched his round, wide-eyed expression. How could he be so adorable?

So he liked him all along but pretended he didn’t?

Amidst this, he felt a strange sense of fulfillment. But instead of examining his own feelings, Jaebeom, who was paying more attention to Eunsol’s change, clicked his tongue in disapproval.

“I figured lately you’ve been acting way too obvious.”

“When did I?”

“Don’t play dumb. You’ve been like this from the start. Pretending to be drunk to cling to me, acting like you’re doing chores just to look good somehow.”

“No, I didn’t.”

Even if you put on that aggrieved look, I won’t be fooled anymore.

“You’ve been worse lately, haven’t you? You were all excited about cooking something I’d like. Look at you now. Making excuses like ‘this might be my taste’ while trying to pull something on me just to do something with me.”

“Well, that’s not it at all!”

Eunsol stamped his feet, his face looking like he was about to go crazy.

“Careful. It’s not good for Ssangssang and Ddungddung. Why don’t you sit down?”

When he mentioned the twins sternly, Eunsol had no choice but to sit on the sofa. But he only perched on the seat, ready to jump up at any moment.

“Or what? You don’t like me?”

Unable to deny those words, those luscious lips closed again. Jaebeom let out a sly chuckle.

It felt like a long-standing question had finally been answered. But he quickly wiped the smile from his face.

“Well, if that’s what you say, I won’t stop you.”

Jaebeom opened his mouth in a teasing tone. An omega bearing his two kids supposedly liked him. That was fine by Jaebeom, it couldn’t hurt him at all.

“If you asked me to change the contract so slyly because you liked me, I could understand that.”

Eunsol couldn’t interrupt as usual and had to keep listening to what he was saying.

“But Eunsol. Keep one thing in mind. Just because I know how you feel doesn’t mean I’ll accept it. Got it?”

There was one thing Jaebeom had realized while navigating the world: the thing you must guard against most is having someone you feel obligated to protect.

Though his mouth turned bitter at Eunsol’s clouding expression, Jaebeom did not take back what he had said. He couldn’t risk shaking his future for a moment’s joy.

That wouldn’t help either of them.

“Keep that in mind.”

Eunsol bowed his head at his blunt words. He already knew that Pyo Jaebeom would never open his heart to him.

‘He was the one who misunderstood from the start?’

The only reason Eunsol had been circling around him all this time was to revive the memories Pyo Jaebeom had forgotten.

But if you really dug into why he did it, at its core was a longing to get along with him.

He hoped that if it was the actor, not the gangster boss Pyo Jaebeom, he might see him differently, perhaps through the shared experience of being transmigrated in a drama.

“Anyway, I’ll read this, so you can go now.”

At least Pyo Jaebeom said he’d read the magazine, so he had to be satisfied with that.

‘Who said you had to like me right away!’

Eunsol kept muttering under his breath as he left the study. Unfortunately, he didn’t notice that Jongjong tried to follow him swiftly but was caught by Pyo Jaebeom.

Once outside, he hesitated for a moment, unsure what to do next. Then, suddenly, the photos he’d received at the hospital earlier came to mind.
