Chapter 62 Avoidance
Zhou Hui returned home close to ten o’clock. As soon as he entered the door he found Zhou Mingchen and Lin Anyi, the two little brats, sitting on the living room sofa playing games.
The game’s sound was blaring with constant clangs and bangs. The heavy light pollution on the TV screen made it dizzying to watch. He could barely make out that it was a one-on-one fighting game.
A round had just ended, and Zhou Mingchen grinned with clenched fist and shouted “YES!” He had won.
On the other side, Lin Anyi had a long face; he listlessly put down the controller.
So annoying, he’d lost all night, and this boring Zhou Mingchen wouldn’t even let him win.
–Zhou Hui deduced the above information from Lin Anyi’s expression.
Seeing that Zhou Mingchen was still trying to pester Lin Anyi for another game, Zhou Hui, as their father, couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped forward: “Where’s your dad?”
Zhou Mingchen turned around, paused for a moment, and said, “I don’t know…maybe he’s in his room?”
Lin Anyi was more reliable: “He went to the media room to watch a movie.”
Zhou Mingchen, the silly boy, was surprised and asked Lin Anyi, “When did he go? How come I didn’t know?”
“Then you guys continue playing, I’ll go find him.” Before leaving, Zhou Hui patted his silly son’s head, “Give way to Xiao Yi a little, otherwise no one will want to play with you in the future, and you’ll have nowhere to cry.”
“It’s so boring to give way in competitive games. I believe Lin Anyi doesn’t want me to give way either, right…”
Zhou Mingchen said confidently, but when he glanced at Lin Anyi’s expression, he lost confidence.
“Really? You really want me to give way to you?” It was his first time seeing this.
Lin Anyi looked away and said softly, “Giving way a little isn’t impossible, it’s my first time playing.”
Zhou Mingchen’s worldview was reshaped at this moment.
For the first time, he encountered an opponent in a competitive game who required him to be courteous…
Suddenly, something occurred to Zhou Mingchen, and he tentatively asked, “You don’t actually really like this kind of game?”
Lin Anyi was taken aback and actually asked in return, “Are there other types of games?”
At this moment, Zhou Mingchen finally realized that the guy in front of him was a pitiful little thing who hadn’t played a video game in over ten years of life. Zhou Mingchen felt sorry for him, and he immediately turned off the fighting game and opened a cartoonish, heartwarming farming game.
“Let’s cultivate the land, farm, and build our island!”
…
Zhou Hui walked into the media room, where a classic romance movie was playing on the screen. The ship was about to collide with an iceberg; a crisis was approaching, but the passengers were still unaware.
Using the light scattered from the screen, Zhou Hui sat down next to Shen Wanchao.
Shen Wanchao naturally leaned on his shoulder and said, “You’re back? I have something I want to ask you.”
The two of them had already seen this movie. The main plot was so well-known that you could guess what happened next without even watching it. He wondered why Shen Wanchao chose to watch this one.
Zhou Hui’s attention had been focused on Shen Wanchao. He asked, “What?”
Shen Wanchao sat up cross-legged, and turned to face Zhou Hui. “Who is Ji Yang?”
Zhou Hui didn’t react immediately and asked blankly, “Who?”
“Ji Yang,” Shen Wanchao repeated, “the one who was with Tao Yan today.”
Zhou Hui thought for a moment, but couldn’t even remember what the person looked like. He replied, “I don’t know him.”
Shen Wanchao was surprised. “You don’t know him?”
“Should I know him?” Zhou Hui was confused.
“That’s strange.” Shen Wanchao muttered to himself, “A few months ago, the day after I met you, right after I turned out like this, you took me back to Tao Yan’s house. I heard him arguing with a young man, seemingly about me staying there, so I felt embarrassed to continue bothering him and wanted to find a new place to stay. But as soon as I went downstairs, I found that you hadn’t left and had even invited me to stay at home.”
Zhou Hui understood now, and he raised an eyebrow: “That man arguing with Tao Yan was Ji Yang? You think I arranged for him?”
Shen Wanchao stared at him: “Yes.”
Zhou Hui chuckled and answered honestly: “That day, I just thought that since I was already here, I sent Tao Yan a message to test his reaction, so I waited downstairs for a while. But he didn’t reply to my message until the next evening. I don’t know any Ji Yang.”
“So that’s how it is.”
Shen Wanchao was somewhat disappointed. He had thought he could learn more about Ji Yang from Zhou Hui.
Zhou Hui grabbed his shoulders, pulled him into his arms, and whispered, “Why did you suddenly ask about that person? Is there anything about him that makes you suspicious?”
Shen Wanchao relaxed; he leaned against Zhou Hui and said, “He’s not suspicious. I’m just a little worried about Tao Yan.”
“Didn’t you notice? Throughout today’s itinerary, Ji Yang was completely obedient to Tao Yan, even when Tao Yan did things he didn’t like or agree with, he didn’t complain.”
Shen Wanchao said, “But… he doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would always be submissive.”
The more Shen Wanchao spoke, the more his brows furrowed: “It’s like Tao Yan has caught him doing something wrong, which forced him to comply, but this compliance has its limits. Once those limits are exhausted, he’ll explode, even backfire.”
“Boom!!!”
A loud collision, followed by a chorus of desperate screams, suddenly echoed throughout the room.
The ship had struck an iceberg.
Shen Wanchao was startled and grabbed the remote to pause the movie.
Zhou Hui leaned back on the sofa, his expression inscrutable. He asked, “What do you want to do?”
“I don’t know…” Shen Wanchao shook his head helplessly. “Tao Yan doesn’t seem to want to tell me much, but I don’t want anything to happen to him either.”
A slightly anxious silence spread between the two.
Zhou Hui stared at Shen Wanchao, who remained oblivious, still worried for his friend.
After a moment, Zhou Hui wearily sighed, and said, “Do we really have to keep talking about other people?”
Shen Wanchao paused, and finally focused all his attention back on Zhou Hui. He noticed that Zhou Hui’s eyes seemed darker and deeper than usual, yet unfocused.
Shen Wanchao’s heart dropped. He gently stroked Zhou Hui’s eyes, and Zhou Hui obediently closed them in response.
“What did Lu Yingtang say to you tonight?”
Zhou Hui could hear the overflowing concern and worry in Shen Wanchao’s voice.
He didn’t want Shen Wanchao to keep talking about other people, but when Shen Wanchao actually asked about him, he resisted answering.
After a moment of silence, Zhou Hui wrapped his arms around Shen Wanchao’s waist, and hugged him, whispering, “Nothing.”
The scent of ebony grew heavier. Shen Wanchao sensed Zhou Hui’s resistance to discussing the matter from his pheromones, so he didn’t ask further. He simply reached out and hugged him back.
“Whatever he said to you, just pretend you didn’t hear it,” Shen Wanchao said gently. “I’ll always be with you.”
Zhou Hui responded with a muffled “Mmm”.
The two hugged each other and didn’t say anything.
After some time, Zhou Hui calmed down a bit, loosened his arms slightly, and asked, “Is your first proper heat coming soon?”
Shen Wanchao’s face turned red, not from shyness at discussing the topic (they were no longer embarrassed by such things) but from the instinct of an Omega about to truly enter adulthood after receiving too much Alph pheromone.
Shen Wanchao nodded slightly while simultaneously pressing the back of his hand to his flushed cheek, and said, “It should be the same as before, sometime at the beginning of summer vacation.”
Lately, Shen Wanchao had been noticing changes in his body.
The fever wouldn’t subside, so he could only temporarily distract himself.
He looked at Zhou Hui: “When that time comes, let’s go on vacation together, just the two of us, without bringing anyone else.”
The implication in his words was too obvious. Zhou Hui chuckled and pinched Shen Wanchao’s already red cheek.
“Have you forgotten that your new ID card only says you’re 18, Shen Xiaotu?”
“But…”
Shen Wanchao wanted to argue that he wasn’t really only 18, but before he could finish, Zhou Hui released him and stood up.
“I’m going to take a shower first. If you’re not going to watch anymore, pack up and go back to the room.”
With that, Zhou Hui disappeared through the doorway.
Shen Wanchao’s shoulders slumped in dejection.
…It’s all Lu Yingtang’s fault! What nonsense did he say to Zhou Hui?!
…
“Ugh!”
Sharp teeth pierced the already fragile and sensitive skin on the side of his neck.
The pain was like an electric current exploding through his body, and Tao Yan couldn’t help but tremble.
Pressed to the side on the pillow, he couldn’t see anything, but he could feel that the bite was definitely bleeding.
Occasionally, Ji Yang would be very rough, and Tao Yan could tolerate everything else, except leaving obvious marks in visible places.
It was still summer, and even covering up was difficult.
Unable to bear it any longer, Tao Yan warned the person on his neck: “Enough! I’m a Beta, what you’re doing is useless!”
However, the person on top of him seemed to be deaf, and even bit deeper and deeper.
Tao Yan closed his eyes. He changed tactics, and softened his voice, “A-Yang, don’t do this, it hurts so much.”
Ji Yang finally released him, straightened his upper body, and gently traced Tao Yan’s spine with one hand while wiping away the bright red from his lips with the other.
A series of ripples spread where his hand touched, and Tao Yan tensed up.
Then, Ji Yang encircled Tao Yan, forcing him to straighten up and press closer.
Ji Yang asked, “Do you really have to go back to your hometown to get married?”
It was that question again.
Tao Yan had answered it countless times over, and every time his answer didn’t please Ji Yang, he would be tormented.
So this time, Tao Yan was smarter. He didn’t answer the question directly, but continued to plead in the tone that would soften Ji Yang’s heart the most, “Be gentle, A-Yang…”
And as expected, this tactic worked immediately.
Tao Yan felt the person behind him pause, and then indeed become gentler.
…
Ji Yang leaned in to kiss Tao Yan, but was decisively dodged.
Tao Yan’s eyes were barely open; he weakly said as he lay on his side, “No, I can’t go on anymore.”
Ji Yang gritted his teeth and said, “You’re always like this. You cry out at the slightest pain, and complain of being tired after a little while. I’ve never been satisfied with you.”
Tao Yan’s face was half-buried in the pillow, his head turned to the side, and his eyes closed: “Then you should find an Omega who you can mark and give you satisfaction.”
“Damn it, didn’t I tell you not to say things like that again!?”
Ji Yang furiously raised his hand.
He slammed his fist on the pillow in frustration.
Tao Yan ignored him, keeping his eyes closed. He wanted to fall asleep.
Ji Yang angrily paced around the room twice while cursing. He picked up the guy lying on the bed, pretending to be dead, and headed toward the bathroom.
Hot water had already been prepared in the bathtub. Ji Yang put Tao Yan in, then turned to get the showerhead.
Tao Yan’s head bobbed wearily as he sat in the bathtub. He said, “I’m almost forty. I don’t have your energy. I can’t possibly satisfy you. Just let me go.”
Ji Yang, without any gentleness, directly drenched Tao Yan’s head with the showerhead, turning him into a drowned rat. “We only did it twice tonight. I’ve already let you off the hook.”
He wasn’t actually referring to that.
Tao Yan lowered his eyes and didn’t say anything more.
Ji Yang sat behind the bathtub and washed Tao Yan’s hair.
Tao Yan tilted his head back, his neck elongated. The blood at the bite mark had already begun to congeal and reflected a shimmering light under the bathroom light.
He let Ji Yang handle him like a dead fish.
Ji Yang lathered his head with bubbles. His expression made it look like the guy in front of him owed him five million. He asked, “When are you going home?”
This question was completely new.
Before, Ji Yang deliberately avoided asking Tao Yan when he was leaving.
“The 25th of next month,” Tao Yan said while enjoying the head massage with his eyes closed.
Ji Yang said sullenly, “I’ll take you to the station then.”
Tao Yan immediately refused, “No need.”
Ji Yang got angry again, “No, I have to take you!”
“Don’t come.” Tao Yan finally opened his eyes. His expression was serious as he repeated, “Don’t come.”
Ji Yang gritted his teeth. He didn’t say anything more, and tightened his grip, as if he had a grudge against Tao Yan’s hair.
Tao Yan sighed inwardly; he knew that this guy would definitely show up.
He had never truly stopped him from doing what he wanted.
“I can stay with you until the last night,” Tao Yan said calmly, “The only request is that you don’t appear in front of me on the 25th.”
“…Why?” Ji Yang asked, but he didn’t say everything he was thinking.
Tao Yan tilted his head back further to look up at Ji Yang, and said, “Because I want to give each other a fresh start.”
Clang!
Ji Yang could no longer suppress his anger. He slammed the showerhead to the floor, and grabbed a towel before wrapping himself in it and leaving left.
Tao Yan watched the person leave with a blank face.
No one was there to help him wash his hair, but Tao Yan didn’t care.
He dragged his exhausted body out of the bathtub, bent down to pick up the still-running showerhead, and calmly rinsed the shampoo from his head.
