MM 151

He slowly opened his eyes. The feeling of the blankets embracing his body was pleasant. Only after opening his eyes did Yu-young realize that he had been hugging the blanket, which was soaked with Do-won’s scent, curled up like a ball while sleeping.

‘What time is it…?’

Yu-young blinked a few times, closing and opening his eyes, before checking the clock on the wall. It was already past ten. Even though it was the weekend, he usually didn’t sleep in this late, but lately, he had been feeling more tired than usual and ended up sleeping for quite a long time. Or maybe it was because he had spent such an intense time at the office yesterday. The thought of yesterday made his face feel hot for no reason.

By the way, he was extremely hungry. Rubbing his flat stomach, Yu-young got up to wash his face. Along with the hunger, a sensation of nausea, which strangely felt familiar, began to overwhelm him. Now that he thought about it, he had felt something similar yesterday.

‘Why is this happening? Should I go to the hospital or something?’

As he thought this, he opened the bedroom door and walked out, only to see Do-won sitting at the large dining table, typing on his laptop.

“You’re up?”

Do-won flashed a smile and closed his laptop.

“Shall we eat breakfast? You must be hungry, right?”

“Yes. Thank you for making breakfast. What’s on the menu?”

“I made beef stew, rolled eggs, and some seasoned vegetables.”

“Wow… that sounds delicious.”

Though he felt guilty toward Do-won, as soon as he heard about the beef stew, he almost gagged again. But not wanting to let Do-won notice, Yu-young forced a smile.

Do-won cleared the table and served the rice and soup he had warmed earlier. While he finished setting up the side dishes, Yu-young had to fight the urge to vomit. Just smelling the warm beef soup made him feel like he was about to throw up.

‘Why is this happening? I really can’t take it anymore.’

“Sit down, Yu-young. I’ll bring you your spoon…”

“Ugh!”

In the end, unable to hold it in, Yu-young rushed out of the kitchen. Do-won, startled, was left behind as Yu-young ran desperately to the bathroom and locked the door. He immediately bent over the toilet and gagged, but of course, with an empty stomach, nothing came out.

Do-won soon followed and began knocking on the bathroom door.

-Yu-young, open the door. Yu-young!

“Just… just a moment… I’ll be right out…”

Yu-young answered in a hoarse voice, then gagged a few more times. He didn’t want to show Do-won this side of him.

Now, he was really embarrassed. The beef stew was something he actually liked very much, and Do-won often made it for him. But how could his taste suddenly change like this, as easily as flipping the palm of his hand? Just thinking about the greasy beef soup made his stomach churn violently.

After finally calming his stomach, Yu-young rinsed his mouth and opened the door. Do-won was standing outside with a worried look on his face.

“Yu-young, what’s wrong? Huh?”

“I don’t know…”

Yu-young, completely exhausted, collapsed into Do-won’s arms and rested his head on his shoulder. The faint scent of Do-won seemed to calm his stomach, which had been in turmoil just a moment ago.

“Could it be indigestion…? No, it’s strange. Since yesterday… just thinking about meat, ugh.”

“…Meat?”

Yu-young waved his hand with a furrowed brow. Just saying the word made him feel like he was going to throw up. Holding his eyes tightly closed, he took deep breaths while in Do-won’s arms, desperately trying to suppress the nausea. At that moment, a thought appeared in his mind like a savior.

Something that made his mouth water just by thinking about it, something sour and refreshing. The green liquid from yesterday that had calmed his stomach.

“Y-You… You…”

“Yes. What is it, Yu-young?”

“Can you buy me some kiwi juice?”

Yu-young blinked, his eyes filled with tears from the nausea, and said desperately. Completely caught off guard, Do-won’s eyes widened and looked at him with a puzzled expression.

Yu-young knew it was a bad time to ask for such a thing, especially since breakfast was already ready. But he felt like he might die if he didn’t have the kiwi juice immediately. He clenched his fist and pounded his chest as he quickly blurted out again.

“Please hurry. Right now. Kiwi juice. Please.”

“Okay, okay. Just wait a moment.”

Although confused by Yu-young’s urgent demand, Do-won nodded and quickly rushed out of the room, grabbing his wallet as he ran toward the front door. Seeing him leave in nothing but a T-shirt and comfortable pants, without even putting on a jacket, Yu-young slumped down onto the bed.

This was strange. Something was definitely wrong. If that’s the case…

‘…Could it be?’

The only word that came to mind was one word. Could it be? Could it be?

Yu-young slowly got up and headed to his room. He took out the pregnancy test kit, which he had secretly kept hidden in a drawer deep inside, without Do-won knowing. He had bought it casually from the pharmacy some time ago, thinking he might use it someday, but had never used it before, so it was still in its unopened packaging.

His hands were shaking. With hands trembling so visibly, he took the test kit and entered the bathroom. A little while later, Yu-young sat on the bed, staring blankly as he waited for the result. His mind was in a whirlwind. He wanted to know the result quickly, but at the same time, he almost wished he didn’t have to know.

Whatever happened, he hoped the result would come before Do-won returned. With an anxious heart, Yu-young stared intently at the test kit.

A clear red line appeared in the test window. Yu-young couldn’t help but gasp as his breath caught. So, if this was the case, if he was pregnant, the test line would appear as well, meaning there would be two lines.

‘…I’m going crazy.’

Covering his mouth with one hand, he continued staring at the test stick. Just then, with a clunking sound, the door opened. Do-won, running in hurriedly, threw open the bedroom door.

“Yu-young. I brought the kiwi juice…”

Do-won, who had been moving quickly, froze when his gaze landed on Yu-young’s face, and then at the test stick Yu-young was holding. Neither of them could speak; they just stood still, staring at each other.

“……”

“……”

A silence that felt like it lasted forever passed between them. Do-won quickly walked over and put the kiwi juice on the nearby table. Then, looking directly into Yu-young’s eyes, he asked,

“Darling… is this…?”

“…Darling.”

“…Is it what I think it is?”

He was rarely this flustered. Their gazes lingered on the pregnancy test before meeting each other’s eyes again. On the test stick, two unmistakable lines were clearly visible. Yu-young, who had been staring blankly with his mouth agape, slowly nodded his head.

“It… seems like it’s right.”

After waiting for Yu-young’s response, Do-won immediately rushed over and hugged Yu-young’s small body. Only then did Yu-young realize that Do-won’s hands, which were holding him, were trembling uncontrollably.

“Yu-young.”

Do-won’s voice was unsteady, almost dreamlike, but at the same time, filled with an overwhelming joy that seemed almost too much to believe.

“I… I’m not dreaming, am I? This is really… really happening?”

“Yes… it’s true. Darling, this isn’t a dream.”

Truth be told, Yu-young himself felt just as dazed, like he was dreaming, but he did his best to comfort Do-won in a grown-up way. He had never seen Do-won so shaken before. His hands, which were repeatedly brushing over Yu-young’s neck, nape, and back, felt like those of a nervous young man, unlike his usual calm self.

Do-won, struggling to speak through the lump in his throat, finally managed to speak again.

“Yu-young. I… I…”

“Yes.”

“I want to know how you feel. It’s the most important thing to me to understand how you’re feeling right now. I’m really worried that this pregnancy might burden you.”

“……”

“So please, tell me. Yu-young. Your feelings.”

Listening to his faintly trembling voice, Yu-young could tell he was really nervous. And now he understood why Do-won was so scared.

Yu-young loved the life they were living right now. Sharing meals with Do-won, going to work together, moving toward the same goals as a team, and after work, coming home together and falling asleep happily in the same nest.

And Do-won knew this very well. The fact that they kept their marriage a secret from the team was so they could continue living as they always had.

So… what was he feeling right now? What were his true feelings at this moment?

Yu-young stayed silent for a while, trying to understand his emotions. Do-won, however, didn’t rush him and simply waited beside him.

But the emotions he felt right now weren’t those of anxiety or despair about losing the life they had before. Though he was confused and nervous, his feelings were completely different from that.

Yu-young slowly spoke up, gently taking Do-won’s hand, which had been extended toward him.

“I… I’m…”

“……”

“To be honest, I’m in shock. I’m a little… no, a lot surprised. Of course, we did… certain things on our honeymoon, but… honestly, we didn’t plan for this.”

Do-won’s face, nodding gravely, clearly showed the tension he was feeling.

“…But still, I’m really… happy.”

“……!”
