Chapter 74 Video Call

Given the efficacy of current market suppressants, most Omegas only need one injection to maintain their heat cycle until it ends.

Shen Wanchao didn’t use the suppressants; he thought that the injection would solve all his problems. The next day, feeling much better, he became restless. He ran downstairs to help Aunt Liu prepare ingredients for lunch, played chess with Shen Xianru, consulted with Jiang Yin who was developing new desserts, and pestered Zhou Ruolin to go out with him, only to be refused. He then settled for sunbathing in the yard.

Jian Yin felt much relieved after seeing his energetic appearance. She asked, “Is the child better?”

Shen Xianru looked at Shen Wanchao squatting in the yard weeding the flowerbed. He hesitated for a moment before saying, “He seems much better.”

Only Zhou Ruolin, also an Omega, had a clear understanding of the current situation. He crossed his arms and sighed, “He’s just excessively energetic and abnormally excited… Oh well, it’s good that he can expend some energy on these things.”

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to sleep once the inhibitor’s effects weakened.

After all, Omegas usually spend almost days and nights battling with Alphas during their heat cycle.

Now that Shen Wanchao couldn’t see Zhou Hui, his excess energy could only be spent elsewhere.

Zhou Ruolin said to Aunt Liu, “Where are the [unauthorized copy]badminton rackets? I’ll go play some badminton with Xiao Wan in the yard.”

A little while later, Aunt Liu brought over the badminton rackets.

All afternoon, Shen Xianru and Zhou Ruolin took turns playing ball with Shen Wanchao, which exhausted the two sixty-year-olds.

Zhou Ruolin slumped in his chair; he didn’t want to move a single finger. Shen Xianru could still stand, but his heaving chest and profuse sweat showed that he was only putting on a brave face.

Across from them, Shen Wanchao, his face slightly flushed from the exercise, slung his racket over his shoulder, laughed, and said, “You two go and rest, don’t tire yourselves out.”

Zhou Ruolin was too exhausted to say a word.

Shen Xianru, who was actually just as tired as his in-law, was also speechless.

He was facing his son, but it felt like he was taking care of his grandson.

At dinner, Shen Wanchao barely ate anything. Gone was his energetic afternoon self; he became listless again. After only two mouthfuls of vegetable porridge, his face turned as green as the vegetable leaves in the porridge. He got up and said he was tired and wanted to go back to his room to rest.

Jiang Yin’s heart, which had just begun to relax, jumped again: “What’s wrong with this kid? He hasn’t eaten a decent meal all day.”

Zhou Ruolin comforted her: “It’s normal. Omegas don’t eat during this time. There’s nutrient solution in the [unauthorized copy]room; I’ll go up and make sure he drinks a packet later.”

Jiang Yin frowned, “What a torment.”

…

The inhibitor’s effects lasted until the end of the heat cycle, but they gradually weakened over time.

Shen Wanchao pressed his cool hands against his burning cheeks as he lay on the bed, feeling an itch in his heart.

He hadn’t eaten much all day, but he wasn’t hungry.

His stomach wasn’t hungry, but other parts of his body seemed to be lacking something, and clamored to be filled.

Shen Wanchao wasn’t a truly innocent young man after all; he knew what his body craved.

Then, he reached for his phone on the bedside table, opened an app. He placed the phone on his chin, hesitated for a moment, and finally made up his mind to press a certain option.

After a brief wait, a handsome Alpha with striking features, long eyebrows, bright eyes, and a high nose, appeared on the phone screen.

“Shen Xiao Wan?” The handsome man’s voice [unauthorized copy]was deep and pleasant. “Are you… in bed?”

While waiting for a reply, Shen Wanchao, who had wrapped himself in the blankets to avoid being seen blushing, replied, “Yes.”

“Can you get out of bed? I can’t see anything.”

Zhou Hui adjusted the camera angle, and Shen Wanchao could tell from the background that he was still at the company.

Zhou Hui had probably propped the phone up with something; the camera lens showed his hand holding a pen, its knuckles distinct, broad and strong, as he scribbled something on a document.

Shen Wanchao swallowed guiltily and whispered, “Am I disturbing your work?”

Zhou Hui’s eyes were fixed on the document; he treated this as just another routine check-up call. His posture was relaxed as he calmly replied, “Not at all, it’s quite interesting.”

Like having a little office pet for company.

Little did he know his little pet had ulterior motives.

Shen Wanchao quietly accompanied Zhou Hui for a minute and thirty-two seconds of work. Finally unable to contain himself, he asked, “Are you very busy?”

Zhou Hui paused upon realizing something. His smile widened, and he looked at him: “Did you call to say something?”

Outside the office.

Han Zhen had compiled Zhou Hui’s schedule for tomorrow, he planned to routinely confirm it with the boss before leaving work, as well as send in some necessary documents.

He had just stood up from his seat when the newcomer opposite him, who had been selected into the general manager’s office at the same time as him, quickly stopped him with a smile:

“Brother Han, I also have something here that needs to be reviewed by President Zhou, could you help me send it in?”

He used to call Han Zhen “Xiao Han,” but at some point he had changed it to “Brother Han. ”

Han Zhen was young and had been with the company for less than a year. But he had already transformed from an intern into President Zhou’s confidant, and everyone in the office admired him; he had become a model for career advancement.

It was a simple favor, so Han Zhen agreed without hesitation. He gathered the documents and headed to Zhou Hui’s office.

Following protocol, he knocked three times. Since he always received a “come in” response, this time Han Zhen didn’t even notice that the person inside didn’t actually answer; muscle memory led him to open and walk in.

Then, the poor Secretary Han heard something he should never have heard.

“Will you stay with me? Go to the break room…”

The voice coming from somewhere was definitely not President Zhou’s.

Zhou Hui instantly looked at Han Zhen standing in the doorway. The smile on his lips hadn’t faded before his eyes turned cold.

Han Zhen: “…Sorry.”

Shen Wanchao on the phone: “…”

“Get out.” Zhou Hui said sternly.

“Okay.”

Han Zhen bowed, then quickly closed the door, and returned to his workstation in one smooth motion. Even after sitting down, his heart was still doing somersault.

Secretary Han still had a lot to learn as a trusted confidant.

In the office, Zhou Hui picked up his phone, locked the door, and then walked towards the break room.

“Shen Xiao Wan? Why aren’t you saying anything?” Zhou Hui was amused.

Shen Wanchao, startled by Han Zhen’s sudden intrusion, was reflecting on his earlier actions and didn’t want to speak: “Hmph…”

Zhou Hui turned on some of the break room light, and locked the door. He undid one button on his shirt, and lowered his voice to coax the person on the phone:

“Okay, I’m in the break room now. No one can break in anymore. Say what you wanted to say again.”

On the screen, Zhou Hui did indeed enter the break room. The lights weren’t all on, and the slightly dim environment gave a sense of security.

The heat once again swept away Shen Wanchao’s rationality. He lowered his voice and said, “Take it off and let me see.”

Zhou Hui chuckled twice and unbuttoned his shirt one button at a time.

The shirt was open, revealing the muscle lines hidden beneath, ambiguous in the warm light.

Even though he had seen it before, being able to see it but not touch it through a screen made Shen Wanchao’s heart race. He imagined this body, sweaty and slightly red from boiling blood, and the muscle contractions accompanied by the man’s deep breathing with each exertion.

It felt like a little worm had crawled into his body. The worm moved around inside him, and sometimes it went to his lower abdomen, making him curl his toes.

“Continue,” Shen Wanchao said; he felt a fire burning his cheeks.

Thankfully, he was hidden under the covers; otherwise, Zhou Hui would have teased him if he saw him.

Zhou Hui smiled without saying anything, and unzipped his pants as instructed.

Shen Wanchao bit his lower lip as he followed Zhou Hui’s hand on the screen with his own.

…

“Is this okay, Shen Xiaotu?” Zhou Hui’s voice rang out.

“Shen Xiao Wan?”

Zhou Hui called again.

“Shen Wanchao?”

“Baby?”

“Darling?”

He tirelessly, in various ways, called out to his lover again and again.

“Ngh…”

Shen Wanchao shuddered. He was unable to hold the phone any longer. The screen slammed onto the pillow. He closed his eyes and bit the back of his other hand to prevent anyone from noticing anything amiss.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard Shen Wanchao tried to cover it up, the phone’s earpiece was too close. The tens of thousands of yuan worth phone had such excellent sound reception that it faithfully transmitted even the slightest sound of breathing.

… Shen Wanchao lay on his side, somewhat dazed. He took a few slow breaths before remembering something and quickly picking up the phone again.

On the screen, Zhou Hui leaned against the bedside with a playful smile: “Satisfied with this?”

“…” Shen Wanchao should have known he couldn’t hide it from this guy.

Zhou Hui smiled again; he continued, “If you’re tired, you can sleep for a while. I’ll see you again tomorrow.”

Shen Wanchao hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Then, what about you, um, what will you do?”

Zhou Hui deliberately said, “What you did just now, I’ll do later.”

Shen Wanchao thought for a moment, pursed his lips, and asked, “Then do you want me to help…”

“Xiao Wan, can I come in?”

A knock on the door accompanied by Zhou Ruolin’s call came.

Shen Wanchao hurriedly hung up the phone, and crawled out from under the covers. He pulled out two tissues, wiped himself, and threw them in the trash. Then he tidied up the messy blankets and pillows before obediently leaning against them.

“Ahem, come in.” He was so nervous that he placed his hands on his lower abdomen.

Zhou Ruolin opened the door and saw Shen Wanchao with messy hair, a flushed face, and sitting obediently against the pillows, the blanket pulled up to his chest.

“Why is your face so red?” Zhou Ruolin came over and touched his forehead. “Do you have a fever?”

Shen Wanchao felt guilty: “…No, I don’t have a fever. I was just in bed the whole time, so I felt a little stuffy.”

“Why did you crawl under the covers on such a hot day?” Zhou Ruolin asked. “I’ll warm up a bag of nutritional supplements for you. I know you can’t eat right now, but you still need to replenish your energy.”

“Okay, thank you, Dad.”

Shen Wanchao forced a smile as he accepted Zhou Ruolin’s care, feeling apologetic towards Zhou Hui.

Linshan Group headquarters building, president’s office.

Completely unsatisfied, Zhou Hui went into the bathroom provided in the break room and simultaneously sent Han Zhen a notification through the internal system:

[Your performance bonus for this month has been completely deducted. You will personally handle this matter with finance.]

Because the boss was late leaving work, Han Zhen had to stay with him anxiously for half an hour while he worked overtime, only to receive the devastating news.

That evening, Han Zhen posted a picture of a row of streetlights on his WeChat Moments to vent his frustration.
